ISRO Partners with Department of Biotechnology on Space Biotech
As a part of giving a fillip to space biotechnology in the country, ISRO has signed a memorandum of understanding with DBT. The collaboration here is to link space technology with innovative biotechnology to tackle both off-Earth and on-Earth issues.
Space Science and Innovation Cravings are the same driving force that is required to foster innovation among cars.
The combined firm deals with the use of biotechnology in space and life sustenance on other planets. As the vision of India’s aspiration to extend long-term human spaceflight missions has begun to emerge, this new endeavour will centre its efforts on several key areas, including the cultivation of sustainable food systems in space, biomedical research on the effects of microgravity on the human body, and the improvement of bioproduction methodologies in space environments.
A database of knowledge in the fields of molecular biology, genetic engineering, and medical bioscience would add value to the ISRO's main focus, space technology. Collectively, they intend to help make innovations that could be helpful not only to astronauts but also to residents of earth as well.
Applications Beyond Space
The collaboration is not only about space. The findings of the research are expected to bring a change within sectors such as the healthcare sector, the agricultural sector, and principles of sustainability. Technologies that may be created out of this initiative may be in areas of food security, waste management, and climate change.
Building up India in the Global Arena
This partnership establishes India as an illustrious example of the need and pertinence of interdisciplinary study. The global market for space biotechnology is expected to expand fast in the future, and India is likely to have a promising role in this specific area.
ISRO and DBT will support the scientists, researchers, and institutions to make a breakthrough in space biotechnology. With the recent advances in the Indian space programme, this is another boost for India to achieve scientific progress.
By forming this mutually beneficial partnership, both ISRO and DBT shall endeavour to optimise biotechnology in space as well as in other sectors and strive to bring the benefits of this new knowledge to the people.
